Beautiful boots, just what I was looking for., March 3, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: FRYE Women's Melissa Button Knee-High Boot (Apparel) Season after season I have been waiting to find the perfect "riding boot" only to be disappointed by styling or quality. I have to admit it would take a special piece of footwear for me to spend close to $300. That said, these boots are what I've been holding out for!
I got the Melissa Button Boot in Black, in my normal size, and was thrilled when they fit perfectly, even with a nice tapered toe. The tapered toe and plain shaft (no ugly zipper!) give them a beautiful classic look, and the leather looks like with proper care it will only get better over the years. There is a pleasant leathery smell when you open the box, not a rubber or chemical smell.
To address the issues other people have seen:
-Yes the soles are smooth out of the box. But just trying them on and walking on some asphalt scored them up well enough for my tastes (although there is no ice or snow here to worry about).
-The shaft is a little snug on me, but I have larger than average... Read more

LOVED the boot, BUT..., December 7, 2010 This review is from: FRYE Women's Melissa Button Knee-High Boot (Apparel) ...they were SO hard to get on and off, the bottom had NO tread (therefore VERY slippery), and the toe needed just a SMIDGE more room for my toes to wiggle. The leather was gorgeous. The style was perfect. The look was classic. I sent them back, but wonder how they would have felt after lots of wear to stretch the leather and scuff up the bottoms? For that price, I wasn't willing to take the time to test run, and not to mention I wanted boots I could wear all day everyday and walk around with no complaints, and I could tell these would need the time to break.

They fit great,they're comfortable, and look fantastic. However, I ordered the dark brown boots from Amazon and received the dark brown distressed. I couldn't tell the difference at first, but it was apparent when I was at work in a different light that the color was a greyish brown and the leather was distressed. Which, I liked but it was not what I ordered/what I was looking for from these boots as I want a dressier pair I can wear to work. From the other review, it looks like she was sent the same suede boot. I sent back and reordered through shop bop (another Amazon store) and am very happy with them (they have both boots for comparison pictures.) So for the boots 5 stars, 3 stars because I was not sent the boots that are advertised, please be advised. ETA: It looks like Amazon has corrected the problem. The boots are now correctly marked!
